Woods Bagot (Thailand) Ltd., an eminent consultancy design firm specializing in the design and planning of facilities with a network of offices throughout Australia, Asia, the Middle East and London, worked to redesign the building and the building’s interior space and improve facilities for maximum utility, and to encourage a safe and pleasant work atmosphere in the company.
“Manulife was highly concerned over health and safety of all employees. Since the building was old and had been erected for a long periods of time, thus, new electrical systems for the building including fire alarm systems are required,” said Chanida Aue-apaikul, project director of Woods Bagot (Thailand) Ltd. She added that Woods Bagot based the whole design on the building itself, with an improvement of satisfactory working atmosphere.
“Previously, the office environment could often be depressing, and the design was quite neutral and plain. A central work area surrounded by rooms along its walls created a dull, passive work atmosphere. Hence, we used transparent glass walls to create a more dynamic design that allows plenty of natural lighting, enables a sense of comfort, and gives the illusion that there is more space available. The design includes aesthetic and functional components, and staff at the central area can also work in their modern, comfortable and relaxing surroundings and enjoy swaying trees and the refreshing blue of the sky outside. Managers and staff can work in the same area while having their private spaces,” she said.
Another important element of decoration is to reflect company’s image, said Chanida. Green, the color of nature as well as Manulife’s own corporate color, is mainly used in interior decoration. “Manulife staff, however, selected their own furniture, and of course, they mainly chose Rockworth furniture such as partition panels and other office workstation products that genuinely reflect an image of Manulife’s professionalism and credibility. They all also agreed that Rockworth provided better services, comparing to other furniture distributors,” she said.
